Vintage Weiner Dog/Dachshund Bookends - Wood, Handmade, Adorable on Flickr. What vintage gold. I will be truly sad to see these go.
I bought these weiner dog/Dachshund bookends driving through rural Vermont, from a man who was having garage sale out of his barn. It was tucked away within the depths of the barn, and looks as if it hadn’t seen the light of day in many, many years.
There is no way for me to tell you when these were made, as it appears to be made by hand and there are no official factory markings. There are pieces of green felt glued to the bottom of each bookend to protect whatever surface you may set these down on. The eyes, ears, and tail are made from a faux leather material. Be sure to check out all the detail shots to get a glimpse of all it’s glory: The tiny buckle collar, it’s delicate tail.
This is by no means in mint condition. These bookends are obviously old, but in a good vintage state. It is simply special because it is imperfect while still maintaining a very potent charm.
Front Book End measures: 5.5” long by 6” high (at the longest and highest points)
Back Book End measures: 4.5” long by 4.25” high (at the longest, no including tail width, and highest points)
